The team is called in to investigate when marine corporal Flegman is found shot to death, and a phone leads them to a hotel room where Gibbs awkwardly stumbles upon his ex-wife Diane Sterling and her FBI agent ex-husband TC Fornell. She had been attempting to call her boyfriend Eddie to break up with him, but somehow Flegman had taken possession of his phone. The team tracks down Eddie's car and discovers a clown nose along with traces of blood and he quickly becomes the prime suspect
